Email Client Configuration
You may access your email account through two primary mechanisms.

Using your favorite browser you may interact with the email server through the web interface @ http://webmail.lemonade.net. The web interface allows you to receive / send mail, and change your email password. You should use the web interface to change the initial password we assigned you.

The more traditional method of interacting with the mail server is using a POP3 / SMTP mail client application like Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express or Eudora. POP3 is an abbreviation for ( Post Office Protocol version 3 ), SMTP is an abreviation for ( Simple Mail Transfer Protocol ).

The following information is provided to help you configure your POP3 / SMTP email client software.

Configuring your email client software is fairly straight forward as long as you pay attention to the details. There are two primary configurations you must get correct.

First, POP3 is the primary internet email protocol used to read email from your email server. To configure POP3 you will need the following information at a minimum.

POP3 Server Name: mail.lemonade.net or mail.milogix.com
POP3 Username: Your fully qualified email address: gwashington@whitehouse.gov
POP3 Password: Your email account password:

Second, to send outbound email you need to specify the name of an SMTP server. Your may use your ISP's SMTP server or you may use ours. Some ISPs prohibit sending outbound email mail to our SMTP servers so you may be required to use their SMTP server for outbound email. If you have trouble using our SMTP server, please check with your ISP to see if they require you to use their SMTP server. Before contacting your ISP, make sure you check the My SMTP Server Requires Authentication section in the table below.

SMTP Server Name: mail.lemonade.net or mail.milogix.com

In order to prevent our SMTP email service from being used as a Email spam relay, our SMTP mail service requires you to authenticate in order to send email. You must configure your SMTP client to use "SMTP Authentication". What this means is the SMTP process will not forward your email until you authenticate using your POP3 Username and password. Once you configure your email client this authentication should take place in the background.

If you are using Microsoft Outlook Express, the following represents the information needed to configure your email client software.

Outlook Property Name Sample Contents
Display Name George Washington
Your Existing Email Address
The one we assigned you gwashington@whitehouse.gov
Incoming Mail Server Type POP3
POP3 Mail Server Name mail.lemonade.net or mail.milogix.com
SMTP Mail Server Name mail.lemonade.net or mail.milogix.com
Account Name ( Username ) gwashington@whitehouse.gov
Make sure your put the @whitehouse.gov part.
Password Your current password. Either the initial password we assigned or whatever you changed it to.
